Building Hope Together

WHAT WE BELIEVE - RIVERSTONE CHRISTIAN CHURCH

What We Believe

The Nature of God:
God is the creator of heaven and earth. He sustains everything within His creation. God is unified yet reveals himself in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit what we now call the Trinity. All equal and unified in nature. (Genesis. 1 & 2, John 14:15-21, John 10:27-30)

The Nature of Jesus:
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, both Lord and Savior. Jesus also represents the second person of the Trinity. Jesus is the incarnate of God Himself. Jesus was called from the beginning of the world to lay His life down for the redemption of humanity. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin in accord with Scriptures. He was crucified, laid to rest, and was resurrected on the third day. The purpose of his death, burial, and resurrection was to restore the relationship between God and humanity. He alone can restore our relationship. He now sits at the right hand of God. (Isaiah 53, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Acts 4:12)

The Nature of the Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is fully God, the third person of the Trinity, and is the comforter that was promised by Jesus before His death. The role of the Spirit is to guide, teach, and help mold us in love that we may become closer to God and ambassadors of Christ. (John 14:15-21, Acts 2)

The Nature of Humanity:
We as mankind are unique in the plan of God for we are the only part of His creation that is made in His image. God gave us free will that we might fully worship Him and Him alone. However, with our free will we chose to disobey God’s commandment. Therefore we became sinners; putting a wedge in our relationship with God, with other men, with women, and creation itself. We as sinners cannot save ourselves therefore; we need Jesus Christ to restore our relationships. (Genesis 2-3)

The Nature of Scripture:
We believe that all Scripture in its entirety is God breathed. Within Scripture the Nature of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are revealed. Within these Scriptures, God’s plan of salvation is revealed through the individual of Christ. Scriptures also provide us with a standard to living a holy life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Nature of Salvation:
God sent Jesus Christ as His redeemer to mankind. Before Christ, Israelites would sacrifice various animals to God as a means to purify themselves. The animals would represent the sins of man. However, these sacrifices were required multiple times a year. Jesus became our sin when crucified and therefore became our atoning sacrifice and represents our death to sin. It is because of that very sacrifice that we put our confidence and faith into Jesus for this was God’s plan from the creation of the world. Through faith in Christ we have become new creations. We have power in His name to overcome sin ultimately ending with everlasting life with God after the return of Jesus. Salvation is found in no one but Jesus. (Acts 4:12, Romans 3:21-26)

The Nature of the Church:
We as the Church are a body of believers who obey Christ and have faith in His atoning sacrifice. Our role is to go into the world fulfilling the commandment to make disciples of all nations. We are ambassadors of Christ for we died and have been made a new creation in His likeness. We strive to bring glory and honor to God through our community with one another. We as the Church are the Children of God. (John 8:21-36, 2 Corinthians 5:17)
